Description

What are Otex Ear Drops?
If you’ve got a hardened, uncomfortable build-up of wax clogging up your ears, choose Otex Ear Drops to safely and effectively remove your ear wax. Otex Ear Drops contain the active ingredient hydrogen peroxide, a solution that helps to gently soften and break down ear wax into smaller pieces, allowing it to fall out on its own.

How to use this product
Always use Otex Ear Drops exactly as described in the patient information leaflet or as your doctor / pharmacist has told you. For use in the ears only. Use once or twice per day, usually for a period of 3-4 days until you notice an improvement in your symptoms.

To use, turn the cap anti-clockwise to reveal the applicator nozzle. Tilt your head to the opposite side, for example, if you’re treating the left ear, tilt your head to the right. Gently squeeze up to 5 drops into the ear and keep your head tilted for a few minutes to allow the drops to stay in the ear. Wipe away any excess and repeat in the other ear if necessary. Wash hands after use. Do not ‘plug’ the ears with loose cotton wool. Always replace the cap after use and return the bottle to the carton.

How does hydrogen peroxide remove ear wax?
Hydrogen peroxide is an effective solution that works to remove hardened ear wax by softening and breaking it down into smaller pieces, allowing it to safely fall out on its own.

What is the best way to remove wax from the ears?
The best way to clean your ears is with a damp washcloth – but you can also apply a few drops of a specialist ear wax remover, such as olive oil or hydrogen peroxide, into your ear to soften the wax and allow it to fall out on its own. Cotton swabs are fine to clean your outer ear, but you shouldn’t use them to clean the inside of your ear as they can cause injury and force the wax further down the ear canal.

Are Otex Ear Drops suitable for children?
Yes, Otex Ear Drops are suitable for both adults and children. If you’re unsure if this product is suitable for your child, always speak to your GP or pharmacist for advice.

Are Otex Ear Drops suitable for pregnant and breastfeeding women?
Otex Ear Drops can be used during pregnancy and while breastfeeding. The ingredients included in this product have been in widespread use for many years, without reports of problems. However, safety trials have not been conducted. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, you must ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking or using any new products.

When should this product not be used?
Otex Ear Drops may be unsuitable for certain people. Do not use this product if you are allergic to hydrogen peroxide or any of the other listed ingredients. Do not use this product if:

You have a history of ear problems, unless used under the close supervision of your doctor, nurse or pharmacist

You are putting anything else in the ear (such as other ear drops or a hearing aid)

Your eardrum is (or has been) damaged

You suffer from dizziness

There is anything else wrong with your ear, such as pain, swelling, discharge, infection or tinnitus (ringing sounds in the ear)

You have tried to remove the ear wax using fingernails, cotton buds or other implements. (This is because you might have damaged the delicate inner lining of the ear, leading to swelling or infection.) This could make it painful to use the ear drops

You have had your ear syringed in the last 2 to 3 days as this could also make it painful to use the eardrops

Are there any side effects?
Like all products, Otex Ear Drops may cause side effects in some people, but these won’t affect everybody. Seek emergency medical attention if you notice any signs of a severe allergic reaction, symptoms of which include swelling of the face and throat, skin rash, breathing difficulties and/or loss of consciousness. Side effects may include:

A temporary mild bubbling sensation in the ear (due to the release of oxygen as the drops break down the ear wax)

The ear drops can make the symptoms of excessive ear wax worse, including some discomfort, irritation or pain, loss of hearing, dizziness and tinnitus (ringing sound in the ear)

If you experience any side effects, including any not included in the patient information leaflet, you can report them using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
